Practical skills

 Experimentation ( photo series )

On Wednesday I went up to the art department to practice what i'd like on my body using colours i know would stand out, I painted and i also used stencils. It was good practice for me because the dummy was suitable for what i wanted to do and it gave me a better understanding for how i want to put my message across.

Experimentation (Graphical poster)

This piece of experimentation i really like because of how it buts across a message along with different colours which i know would be appealing to my target audience. I was inspired by another graphic poster i saw on pinterest, I recreated it as my own

I went up to the art department to experiment with acrylic paint, at first i wasn't sure how to combine body identity and i decided to use my hand which came out pretty good, i used inspirational quotes which went well together

I was recommended this website today by my teacher and i was looking at different font styles that i could go far. As i haven't selected one yet i will be finding one that checklists the feel of my product and whats best fit.

This is a series of 15 slides that shows my experimentation of how i want to compose my piece, seeing how lighting can have a different effect or feel which is something i want to achieve, through practice it has made my understanding of how i will be composing my photography piece more clearer.

POST-PRODUCTION

logo creation

I created this logo using adobe illustrator, I used the line tool and the anchor points to curve against my trace as accurately as possible to sketch out my outline on another layer, I was able to hide the layer underneath afterwards.

I was happy with how my logo turned out however I wanted a different feel so I changed the stroke to a calligraphic feel.
I wasn't particularly fond of the fonts Adobe had in illustrator, so I headed onto Adobe fonts filtered out to cursive and enabled it.

This is my logo, I also plan to add a hint of colour and leave the original without colour so i can use both

here is my logo with  a outline hard mix pink glow, however the glow wasn't prominent and i had seen that it could be done another way
in order to create this another layer was copied for the black outline, the second layer was copy then manipulated by expanding it and coloured in pink and this was then blurred with (gaussian) the last layer was filled with white to remove the transparent background.

PHOTOGRAPHY

my photography studio set up image above

Process of finding someone who has experience in that field being a art practitioner who had worked on projects about body positivity (Maria)
The logistics of studio work i.e the environment i will be taking the pictures in: the media technician has shown me the safety measures of the studio, (cctv camera will be off and doors will be locked due to potential sensitivity around the shoot)
The people who will be working with are all adults, i've ensured that no third party individuals. all members of the shoot comply with safeguarding regulations (dbs check)

MAGAZINE DEVELOPMENT

I decided to change this poster into a magazine cover because the graphical style is more suited for my theme my magazine cover was going to one photographic image but I didn't like the feel for that i would prefer to have my photography included in my magazine, I created this by sketching out a body shape then drawing it roughly so illustrator could pick up the colours, the image was then traced and converted to 3 colours and expanded, from there i made a separate layer for the background colour and filled in the shapes that were closed with colour ( the flowers) the lines that were not closed to become a shape were drawn over with the curve tool and altered with the anchor tool on another layer, the process was tedious and time consuming however i am pleased with my outcome.

I created these characters in illustrator by using the line and anchor tool which was pretty easy to do and i'm happy with the outcome of it, i tried to give each one a personality and a background that my audience can relate with they will be used in my magazine as representatives of the people who did my survey.

creating the heart was also a original creation made from a square and the anchor tool, with a drop shadow included.

I created the hand by sketching on another layer and using the anchor point tool (see problem solvings)

this speech bubble was quite rigged in the column so i changed it to the image below.
The text box was also dark on dark which breached my legibility

Changed result looks more creative and free roamed space made this page look appealing however the text was still in between the page therefore if it were to be printed text would be in the fold and hard to read.

Because the speech bubble was made in illustrator and placed as an image i couldn't distort it to make it look like it was next to the top illustration, in order to do so i had to slightly shear the image towards my illustration, My text was pushed or to the other page of my magazine so it wouldn't be in the fold when printed these are the rules that are mandatory while designing a magazine.

Here is how i first started out with the graphics placement and alignment of text crossing over to another page, Ive also allowed a double page spread for my photography (allowing the use of space), text on coloured backgrounds and order of pages.

On this page i was experimenting with the drop cap, columns and placement of my image.
I decided to take out the drop cap because i thought it was best suited for the first paragraph, so i had to think about how my image couldn't be placed too close to the end of my page where it could get cut off.

This is something new i tried out having the experimentation with the fair page i had wanted to do that again with this illustrative piece. manipulating the use of space was inspired by a magazine i viewed (see bibliography). In this magazine i have incorporated infographics for my demographic to understand.

for this image i used 16 colours instead of 3 so it wouldn't loose too much detail i then traced around it with the line tool and moved it behind a layer and filled it in with a skin colour. This piece of work will be used as the back cover of my magazine.

space and alignment of titles and headings made the magazine come together quite nicely.

On this page i decided to make the background white, something different to the other pages. on this page arrangement of text and images were okay for me to do however my photography image looked very flat on the magazine, I used drop shadow to give depth however i wasn't satisfied with how that turned out, i added a funky border which added a playful bubbly look which i am satisfied with.

INFOGRAPHIC

This is another illustrative piece I created, in illustrator, by using the anchor tool and curving the points accordingly, I also found this easy to create in illustrator I had a lot of control over what I was doing I made this original by adding colour to their swim suits and taking away bit of detail. ( see problem solving for more information)

INFORGRAPHIC
infographics created for visuals created in illustrator, circle and line tools used

This is my informative poster i created in illustrator. I draw my sketch outline and image traced it in with 3 colours. It was a long process to do in and delete extra lines and shapes that were not needed.
I took away the white fills and the face and left the stencil but i created aa fill for clothing and the headscarf on a separate layer.

After i did that the background was changed to a 4 point gradient which works well with what i have. Before i had the text on the clothing and scarf i had it above my stencil however i didn't like it there i had the idea to change the placement by using the type on path tool this was originally something i had wanted to test out and see and worked very effectively following the logistics of what makes a good poster i believe have successfully done so by having information told in a interesting way along with the question mark on the face emphasising that they don't know who they are but it can also be for my fact. I like how this poster has a double meaning, the Allura font has worked strongly on it.

PHOTOGRAPHY EDIT

This is an example of how i would edit my photography, here i was experimenting with colour balance to draw attention to some aspects of my body however due to my purpose of having a raw image unedited i chose not to edit it to still show credibility.

Below are photography images that i didn't include in my magazine development because of the lighting and the message. In the first image its quite dark on one side which i don't like personally, the interpretation of the image may also come across as women's rights to do with abortions. It was important for me to include them i felt proud that i also stepped out of my comfort zone  to take them.

FLOWERS

I had issues trying to separate the flowers on my front cover because of the lines being attached together it was best for me to create new flowers, still following the colour scheme i created my own by using the pen tool and tracing on a separate layer i duplicated the flower trace and filled it in with different colours.
